What I learned on the school board
On the Allendale school board, I voted for our first Early Childhood Center. I’m proud to have my name on its plaque.
I also led the Early College Initiative, giving students a path to begin college in their junior year and graduate with an associate degree from MCC. That’s a concrete opportunity a student can use.
I participated in strategic planning for the district twice. We balanced budgets while building schools and providing busing throughout the district. Those responsibilities belonged together: make the numbers work and give students what they need.
My work creating and running the Allendale Advocacy Facebook group helped families stay informed about education, and WGVU recognized that work. Schools need parents who can follow the decisions being made.
That experience shapes what I’d bring to Lansing: attention to the budget, practical opportunities for students, and a willingness to listen.
